Client Summary

URvet Care Midtown Medical Center in New York, New York, is known for its cat-related services and has received detailed feedback from visitors. One visitor noted: 'Dr. Cortes should never be allowed to put pets down. We came in to put on our cat down and waited about 2 and a half hours for him to meet with us. He had horrible bedside manner and kept complaining about our cat’s behavior. She still had some fight in her so she was growling and hissing a little bit when he tried to move her. He kept complaining that she was going to try and bite him even when we and another nurse told him multiple times that she had no teeth. He never even warned us when he was going to administer the lethal injection. He oddly manhandled her and then administered it. It was extremely jarring and traumatic to witness. He then just quickly checked her heartbeat, said β€œshe’s gone”, and left the room as we were obviously extremely emotional. No sympathy or anything. It has left my husband and I with so much guilt that that was the way she had to leave this world. I hope whoever needs to put their pet down here gets a much better doctor.' Another review mentioned: 'So I am writing from the facility. I made an appointment for an annual visit. We came just a few minutes before the appointment, then we were led to an exam room, which had our name an hour 30min past our appointment time. It's now 40 minutes since we came into the room and NO ONE has come. My 14.5 years old senior dog is stressed and uncomfortable. There is a chair for humans but not a comfortable place for the dog in the exam room. We had a good emergency experience here a while back so I thought I would make this place our regular practice. It's quiet. Is anyone here???? UPDATE: Changed rating to 3. We decided to leave. The staff offered a bed for my dog. But two rooms across had people waiting with time on them 8 and 8:30, clearly delayed as well. I was hoping for one place veterinary care but this flagship location is not a good fit for primary care. Emergencies obviously have to be prioritzed. Some suggestions to the practice: 1. if you have scheduled appointments but can't keep them because of emergency, notify people and ask if they are ok to be on standby to come when the doctors and nurses are available. Restaurants do it for tables! When we were checking in, we should have been told. 2. Have a dedicated health professional for wellness appointments, so you can accept both emergencies and routine care. Having routine care as part of practice is a good business model, as well. I wish it worked out. I really wanted to. But right now it's not a good fit.'
