We finally confirmed a time two days before our trip so she could pick up keys and go over details. At 3:10 p.m. on the agreed day, Marta had not arrived. I called the number in her signature, but it went to voicemail. I also sent a follow-up email asking if she was running late (my email signature has my phone number listed! and we had emailed many times prior to this scheduled visit). At 3:50 p.m., Marta replied, saying there was a typo in my phone number and she had tried to text before 3:00 but I didn't respond. She claimed she came to the house but, because there were two doorbells, and she didn't know which to ring so she left without ringing either. Our doorbell has our apartment number on it. The other doorbell is blank. This reasoning feels like a poor excuse—it’s not an apartment building, we live in a house with just two doorbells, and not even attempting to ring one is baffling. She then informed me she could no longer meet our needs since she had to leave and couldn’t connect before our trip, forcing us to scramble last minute. To be clear, my one-star rating is solely for the poor communication and last-minute cancellation, not Marta’s actual pet-sitting abilities, which I’m sure are excellent. But in my experience, the lack of professionalism, slow responses, and abrupt withdrawal from a confirmed arrangement were completely unacceptable.
